Niki's friend Jane from England is visiting for a few days. Last night we went into Lisbon, to the harbour, where we attended a Fado concert. Fado is the traditional music from Portugal, and is delivered straight from the heart with passion and intensity. Lyrics are mostly about sadness, lost love, yearning and melancholy. Quite uplifting, really... From where I was sitting I didn´t have the best of view, hence the somewhat grainy video clip, but the hour of music was extremely enjoyable and much appreciated by the largely Portuguese audience.
Today, Sunday, we climbed the hills of Sintra (just half an hour away from Povoa de St Adriaõ, to visit the Moorish Castle, offering beautiful views of Lisbon. It´s always a pleasure to go there. I reminded Tess, Yarrow and Anjès of the time we climbed the steep hill to the top of the castle. New excavations have taken place since we were last there, unearthing, among other things, a graveyard and remains of people who were buried there in the 12th and 14th centuries.
Also, The Packing Has Begun today - boxes of non-descript brownish hue have appeared in our flat and are slowly being filled with Stuff To Go To Sarzedo, Stuff To Go To Australia, Stuff To Go To Anybody Who Wants It, and Stuff To Be Thrown Away. There's a lot of stuff, I can tell you...
