When visiting Belem, you can´t really ignore the Pasteis de Belem, or the pasteleria of the same name which has been supplier of the delectable pasteis since 1837. On walking into this culinary establishment, you have to make your way through room upon room, the walls of many of which are clad with beautiful Portuguese ceramic tiles, to find a place to sit, among hundreds of hungry customers, and to be served, it has to be said, by rather grumpy elderly waiters.
