Off today we went to the Byron Bay Writers Festival, Niki´s birthday present. And we enjoyed it to the full, listening to writers, readers, teachers and critics. The programme, from which we selected, can be found here. We saw From Manuscript to market: getting my book on the shelf; From Song to Page: lyrics to literature; and Women of East Timor: stories of resistance and survival, after which I had to a) do some (writing) work, and get Tess and Yarrow to go to circus, so Niki continued and attended Voices in my head: writing dialogue that works, and Does my head look big in this: exploding cultural cliches, as well as Territories: writing indigenous characters. A thoroughly enjoyable day, in the quiet, coastal festival grounds, basking in the winter sun.Friday, August 6, 2010
