Over the past few days Red, our builder, has been trekking through the southwest side of the property to do work on the Bails. Initially, all he was doing was moving big rocks from one side of the property to the other. Doing so, we found he was creating a spontaneous driveway or a forest track around the Moreton Bay fig. (Always wanted to have a drive way there...).While Red was doing that, however, plans changed and we also asked him to level the ground where previously the Fernery had been. (The original owners of the house ran a herb farm for a while and this is where they grew their seedlings and did some of the processing. I had the Fernery taken away to allow space for future extensions of the Bails). In the process Red found hundreds more rocks which were added to the pile in preparation for building the entrance.
After a day and a half of back-hoeing (yes, that is a verb...) he lowered the level of the soil behind the Bails, buried superfluous slabs of concrete, grit, gravel and rubble in a big hole the size of a small swimming-pool (which he had dug in the process), had steel and concrete that came from demolishing the Fernery removed, built a ´higher bit´ (for want of a better word; a new hedgerow will be planted on that, shielding the Bails from the main house), tidied up and sowed new grass.

It now looks a bit as if a gaggle of tanks (I know, that´s geese, but you must admit tanks look like geese ... a bit); anyway, as if a gaggle of tanks has come through Moreton´s Myth and left devastation and desolation - but rest assured that in a short while it will all look lush and green again, especially with tropical spring and summer rains and temperatures approaching...
