Bullock Mountain

As a birthday present, my love had organised a wonderful weekend away for the two of us to the Bullock Mountain Homestead, out west (not Outback yet ...), near Glen Innes, in granite country, to where at the end of the 18th century, many Scottish people migrated. A five-hour trail ride on horseback was waiting for us there. The homestead is run by three lovely people, Allison, Jo and Steve. We made our way up on Friday afternoon (a three-hour drive) via Casino and Tenterfield to Glen Innis.

The ride was on Saturday morning and took us (Jo, Allison, a 74-year-old called Frank, and us two) through the hills around the homestead. It was a frosty morning (-5 or 6!) but the sun was out and the ride was magical. Splashing through creeks, scrambling up and down rocky hillsides, cantering through paddocks with kangaroos, sheep, goats and cows; snoozing during a lunch stop in the mid-day sun. It was wonderful, although when we got back both Niki and I were totally exhausted - I don't think we saw the clock say 9 o'clock that night ...

Here's an impression of the ride ...
